A downloadable Solo RPG

In Salty Dogs you take on the roll of a ship and its crew with each member of your band of sailors being represented by a dice of their own.

The game is set within a world lost to a catastrophic flood. The waters rose without warning, decimating the landscape and leaving it as nothing but a disparate collection of island ruins and displaced communities.

The game involves exploring a connected series of hex maps, created by drawing cards and marking what is discovered on printable Hex grids. Your ship and crew are free to explore the map over numerous days, with players taking up to 6 actions each day, often interrupted by encounters and events.

The PDF includes the general rules of play, important elements to track, the order of phases and the actions players may take during each day of travel along with tables to roll on when creating encounters and newly discovered locations.

At the end of each game day record the successes and failures faced by the crew and tell the story of a world and its inhabitants once thought lost forever.

There are additional printable pages of map tiles, crew sheets and log book pages also available to download if the game is purchased for $6.00 or more.

A question on a rule! When establishing an outpost, the wording is confusing me a little, does it mean that...

  • You can only have one outpost at a location at any one time, but can have as many outposts as you have spare crew.
  • You can only have one outpost anywhere at any time, ever.

Otherwise I've been getting stuff setup on my solo Roll20 table to play, excited to give things a shot!

My intention was that you can create as many outposts as you wish, if you have crew members to do so, on the condition that there can only ever be one crew member stationed at any one named location.

However I’ve always been a firm believer in making games your own, especially solo games. If you find another solution that makes the game more fun to play, definitely choose that one!

I hope that clarifies. I’ll have a look at the wording and see if it can be tweaked for future releases.

Thanks for reaching out! I hope you enjoy exploring the maps and worlds you uncover.

I'm totally with you on that, but getting some intentions clarified is also helpful for some people (like me, haha).

One more question: what do we get for starting resources?

Thanks for the quick response, appreciate you!

Your question made me realised i’ve uploaded an older version ha!

I’ve uploaded the correct one now, which includes my suggested starting rations and resources and I’ve also included the tweaks to Outposts from your earlier post so thank you again for requesting some clarity on that!

Awesome, glad to be of some help, and thanks again!
